Just like in humans, obesity in dogs is usually caused by eating too many calories and living a sedentary lifestyle. Often times your dog's weight gain is so gradual, you don’t notice until your dog goes in for their annual checkup - and then you get "THE TALK" from your veterinarian. Your vet will most likely lecture you and blame you for your dog's condition. Ouch! Now that you've accepted the fact that Fido's "extra fluffy" appearance is more than just fur, the time has come for you to act - and become your best friend's health advocate! If your dog has ingrained bad habits (ie: eating too many snacks, eating from the table, being inactive), a sleep-away wellness camp can be the perfect way to get him/her started on the path to good health! By living in a disciplined, “human food free” environment for a period of time, your dog will become accustomed to a life without table food and excessive snacking. At Wellness Camp, your dog will be eating only appropriate portions of high quality, holistic food, which has been especially selected for him/her. Being on a strict schedule of physical activity will also jump-start your dog's sluggish metabolism, and is conducive for weight loss. Their program offers many fun options for exercise: swimming, walking in the park, agility courses and a treadmill especially designed for dogs! Heather and Jeff like to rotate the activities to keep things exciting, but if your dog likes only one or two activities, they will do those the most. To round out the Wellness Camp experience, when not in private exercise sessions, your dog will have free run of their cage-free home, and engage in supervised, all-day-play with the other like-sized campers and boarders. Socialization with other friendly dogs is essential for their mental health. Canines are social by nature and they thrive on the companionship of each other, as well as the confidence that builds in a social setting. NOTE: Just like their other boarding programs, Sit, Fit & Trained has a 20 pound weight limit and all dogs over the age of 6 months must be spayed or neutered. With advance notice, Wellness Camp can also be integrated into any boarding stay.

Supervised, all-day socialization:
Set-up session after camp has been
completed:
1) Schedule a visit to Jeff and
Heather's home. They will give you a tour of their house and
property and evaluate your dog's behavior at that time, to be
sure he/she is comfortable in their environment. They will then
discuss their program, find out your dog's food preferences, and
offer meal options for camp. There is no charge for this visit and it
takes approximately 30 minutes. 3) Once your dog has been cleared by your vet, call Heather or Jeff to make a reservation. 4) For the health and safety of your pet, they keep their home immaculately clean. Therefore, they request that your dog please be freshly bathed before dropping off at camp - and free of fleas, ticks and mites. 5) Prior to dropping off your dog, be sure to complete and sign the Sit, Fit & Trained contract. Click here to download and print. A copy of your dog's vaccination records, proof of rabies license and clear results of a recent fecal exam must be submitted along with the contract.
